A Sober Christian
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
As a sober Christian I have experienced God’s power first hand for it is only through his grace that I find myself here today.
While living as an active alcoholic and addict, I too was perishing and did not understand God’s grace and mercy through His Son Jesus Christ, even though I was raised in the church. It took what it took for me to be ready to receive His message.
On this Easter Sunday I thank God for my sobriety. In turn I also thank him for bringing me to Him through the darkness of addiction. It was His plan for me to suffer through my own self indulgences and unchecked ego. It was His plan for me to come into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous as a beat down, frightened individual. It was His plan for me to receive His message and change my life.
Today I have faith in God’s plans for me even though I feel blind at times as to what those plans are. Today I have faith that He will guide me and protect me. Today, on this Easter Sunday, I believe that my life today as a sober Christian is part of His plan for me to let others know of His power through the resurrection of his Son.
Today we celebrate Christ overcoming death. Today, through His grace, I celebrate my overcoming the living death of addiction.
God bless and keep you this day.
